We are only 20 mins drive from the retro village of Eltham, 30 mins drive from Stratford, 40 mins drive from Hawera and just one hours drive from New Plymouth city and airport.
From North - Turn Left and from South turn Right at Eltham off SH3 into King Edward St (this becomes Rawhitiroa Rd) and drive approximately 15kms east. Approximately 2kms after the bottom of the Mangamingi saddle, turn Right into Aorere Rd. Drive 5 kms to the end of this (partly gravel) road and follow the signs to Caniwi Lodge at the end of the road to check in.
We advise our guests to shop for groceries on their way to Caniwi Lodge and recommend supermarkets in Stratford, Hawera or the minimart in Eltham.
Nothing can prepare you for the amazing countryside you will see as you drive through lush dairy farmland and into eastern Taranaki's productive sheep and beef hill country. Stop at the top of the Mangamingi saddle and observe the dramatic geological differences which is a great photo opportunity.
You will get your first glimpse of Caniwi Lodge on your left halfway along Aorere Rd. The welcome sight of terracotta roofs in the distance on the valley floor beckons you....
